And finally Rufus arrived, after that great concert in Madrid two years ago I saw him back on the stage with his band (I saw him in Benicassim Festival alone, it was nice but not the best)

I have many things on my mind to tell you about the gig yesterday (6th Nov 2007) in the “Coliseu dos Recreios” in Lisbon. The SHOW was almost 3 hours with a short break of 15 min. The Coliseu was full of people, a lot of people more than last time he played in Lisbon, when he released his first album “Posses”

Now HE was there to present the new album “Release The Stars” and the stage was full of stars, everywhere. When the whole male band and Rufus appeared they were all dressed in striped colourful clothes, with a bizarre mix of colours sometimes. Rufus was dressed in a red & white striped suit full of shining pins all over the suit, butterflies, stars, whatever….with shining rings, shining bracelet, shining necklace…..the other guys in the band were as well with many stars details. The piano full of white stars, the backside covers with a huge american flag, but in white & blue, and shining stars as well. And two big mirror balls, reflecting a lot of shining spots all over the scenario.

And Rufus started to sing “Release the stars” song....….everything was shining and bright.

Before I continue explaining the show I just wanted to give you the 3 phrases of the night (from my point of view)

* I’m a princess without frog…I’m available (At the beginning talk about the visit to the carriages museum in Lisbon, he loved it)
* I’m not the new Mozart….I’m the new Mendelssohn….just kidding (Talking about something it happened to him in Vienna because of his arrogance)
* Give me the introduction….mummy (Almost at the end of the show when his mother played piano and he sung a couple of songs)

1st Act 55 min

He sung most of the last album songs mixing with others, like The Art Teacher, Cigarettes & chocolate, etc. The sound was good, his voice brilliant, and the band great.
His yoga teacher came to help him in one of the songs, and he celebrated his drummer birthday.

2nd Act 55 min

He appeared in an austrian dress, funny dark green shorts and shirt. And he continued singing songs from all albums. But he stopped for the Judy Garland tribute he is doing in this tour. It was great, he alone, only with the piano. He took sometime to sing a irish folk song without microphones, just his voice….and he did it great, everybody was excited with the show. After a few songs he left the stage, and one by one the guys of the band.

3rd Extras / bonus.

He appeared in a white bathrobe (the same as Madrid last gig) and sung a couple of songs alone, playing the piano. Then his mother appeared and she played piano and Rufus sung two more songs, one it was “Over the rainbow” it was amazing. Finally he started to dress like a woman, with high-heeled shoes, shining earrings, black jacket, black hut, etc. And all the guys from the band appeared black suit dresses (the shirts were pink) and they do a cabaret performance quite funny.

Nobody stopped clapping! It was great, amazing, funny, good music, good show, funny people having fun and making us feel a little bit happier.

Thanks RUFUS!

That’s all folks!
See you soon!

Hello all!

We always want to discover new people doing new things....today a friend of mine sent to me this link with a video in Youtube.com

I only know these 2 videos/songs but it looks quite interesting

These 3 guys are from Setubal (south Lisbon about 40km) and they do

HIST: musical collective work:

  • Eurico Coelho (rithms/vox/electronics)

  • Abel Raposo + João Caferra (bass/guitar players).

Eurico: independent artist/designer/scenographer/director/musician/teacher, works/lives in Setubal/Portugal, experimenting and melting medias, searching for new ways to an hybrid/artificial kind of purity in comunication design.

~~~~~~~ NA~DA~DO~RA ~~~~~~
Aunque no actualizo mi blog...sigo escuchando música....
Estos dias no puedo dejar de escuchar el segundo disco de Nadadora "Hablaremos del miedo" Es el último y el más elaborado de sus discos, no cambian su fórmula de hacer música (pop armonioso lánguido y melancólico), pero suben un peldaño arriba, refinando aún más si cabe sus letras y melodías.
Si ya disfrutamos de ese gran debut de Nadadora "Aventuras dentro de Cajas" Agosto-2004, estos chicos han conseguido no sólo mantener el nivel sino aumentar en intensidad y contenido emocional....
Simple, pero bonita y elegante web......como su música.
Y como no...también los podeis encontrar en ese cybermundo de myspace...
Hasta otra ;-)
UM DIA NO SBSR (SUPER BOCK SUPER ROCK)
Ayer estuvimos de concierto, era la segunda jornada del SBSR (super bock super rock). Super Bock es una cerveza portuguesa.
Me perdi a Bunnyranch, lo pobres empezaban a tocar a las 17h un martes ;-)
Llegamos (yo sólo con 3 mujeres) a la mitad de la actuación de The Gift. Hicieron un buen concierto y tenian el aprobado asegurado, jugaban en casa y todo el mundo conocia todas las canciones. Pese a la hora y escasez de gente estuvo bien.
Después llegó la hora de cenar (aqui solo hay un escenario y tienes 20 min de descanso entre concierto y concierto pra dar una vuelta, beber, mear, cenar ;-)
Y por supuesto llego el momento café, aqui los portugueses tienen hasta buen cafe en un festival de música....sentaditos en unas mesas empezamos a ver escuchar a los klaxons, un poco ruidosos al principio. Tengo que reconocer que no estuve muy pendiente, estaba mas disfrutando del ambiente del festival y de la compañia, e intentando comunicarme en portugues. Los veo de nuevo en Benicasim. De todos modos lo poco que vi, aceptable pero no emocionante.
Luego llegaron Los Magic Numbers, los 4 gorditos de NY aterrizaron por primera vez en Portugal. hubo algun altibajo, por aquello del desconocimiento de la gente de ese grupo, pero al final fue una fiesta aquello y se ganaron a todos los que estabamos allí. Fue el comienzo de la fiesta.....el prólogo previo a Arcade Fire (el objetivo, al menos mio, del dia)
Con Bloc Party saltaron las chispas, se lleno todo y ahi bailaba hasta los padres con los niños. Para mi el concierto estuvo BIEN, correcto, pero los bloc party no me llenaron 100%. Tienen ya algunas tablas y tambien saben ganarse a la gente.
Y llego el momento sagrado, el momento esperado....el parco escenario (aunque no pequeño) se empezo a llenar de Biblias y de color rojo, pantallas circulares, haces de luces....cortinas color rojo-granate.....y empezo a entrar gente en el escenario, hasta 10 personas y múltiples instrumentos y otros aparatos ;-)
Empezaron con Broken Arrow, después No Cars Go,...y ya no pararon....Fue "optimo, giro, engraçado....." como dicen los portugueses. Era la primera vez que veia a esta banda y puedes ver a un grupo de gente que se divierten y quieren que tu también te diviertas.
"Parabens" Arcade Fire !!! e obrigado as outras bandas.
Una ultima nota de un periodico portugués: "Se há concertos que valem pela memória que reclamam, um concerto destes vale pela memória que constrói naquele preciso momento. É por isso que, tão cedo, ninguém se vai esquecer desta noite. É por isso que ninguém ainda se esqueceu da grandiosa estreia em Paredes de Coura, tão marcante que nem parece ter sido há apenas dois anos. É por isso que ninguém arreda pé sem ter a certeza de que os Arcade Fire já saíram mesmo de palco. E é por isso que, apesar de querer mais, o público se dispersa a cantar e a desejar que o futuro ande depressa até ao próximo reencontro com a banda canadiana. Não é bem um adeus. É uma despedida com juras de amizade e promessa de regresso breve"
Y por supuesto en la red ya hay videos de anoche.
Hola de nuevo, hello again. Sorry for this big gap between last entry and today.
As some of you may know i'm unemployed now, but happier than before ;-) I should have more free time to writte here but...i've been quite busy doing many things usually you dont have time when you are working.
Anyway, we have NEWS.....I went last saturday to LOS PLANETAS gig in Madrid. Just amazing. They have released their last (7th) album after 3 years of silence and a lot of gossips (as usual) about Los planetas separation and so on. But they were there working sometimes but doing things.
They have reinvented theirselves, they have revitalized what they've got in the 90s as the spanish indie reference band.
If there is something i could say i dont like from this last album is that i miss a little bit the pop songs, BUT the rest is almost perfect....
About this album everbody is talking about flamenco-rock fussion but they have done good rock songs based in flamenco roots, but it doesn't mean pure flamenco, even it is difficult to identify where the flamenco is if you dont know a little bit about flamenco.
Trying to sumarize we could say that, they are noisier, more psychedelic, more melacholy, more guitars & drums....but alternating shadows & lights.
Enjoy it. Here you have a couple of songs.
Hola a todos! hi to all!
Yesterday i reached my own record: I listened to 4 new albums
08:20h
Bracken => "We Know About the Need"
We Know About the Need is the debut album from Bracken, the shrouded-in-mystery solo venture from Chris Adams (vocalist and co-sound designer behind Leeds, UK legends Hood).
It’s a blunt introduction. I need to listen a couple of times more but i think this album gives you a cold feeling.....like a real bracken (see photo)
http://www.myspace.com/brackenmusic
18:00h
Aerogramme => "My Heart has a wish that you would not go"
This band si more interesting than previous one,....
Craig B gets slow, search for new shades & nuances, he expanding his poetry to 10 songs of Aerogramme last album (scottish band).
http://www.matadorrecords.com/aereogramme/
18:45h
La célula durmiente => "Eclectcinismo"
This guy from Cataluña has release an strange album. what the hell is that??? indie rock? punk? pop? or a little bit of everything....first time i listen to...i found some songs good...sometimes it sounds too noisy....i like noise (i love sonic youth) but this guys make sometimes too much noise.
http://www.myspace.com/celulaband
20:30h The good, the bad & the queen => "Kingdom of Doom"
By Damon Albarn....another different project, now with his new band: Paul Simonon (The Clash), Simon Tong (The Verve) & Tommy Allen. Here there is an event waiting to happen ;-)
It was a hard day....the whole day with my mp3 in my ears.
More news upcoming.....
As usual i have a lot of music to talk about but almost not time to sit in front of the computer to writte. Sorry....
This last entry is regarding a swedish man living in France and singing in english. It is some kind of folk music, low music, tender music....
I know that we start to be a little bit boring about this folk music trend. At least i think there are many people doing almos the same. But i like the music this guy, Peter Von Poehl, makes. It is his first album but it is a mature album, know about what he was doing....not hurries, not acceleration, ....
He makes meticulous and detailed minutes of music, with little arrangements of string & wind ...that never steps one on the other. The melodies come, as he says, from scandinavian christmas songs as main influence.
He has done a bunch of good songs, nice, beautiful, lovely,..... but not baroque.
Listen to "Going to where the tea trees are "
Enjoy it
Hola!
How are you my friends? I'm alive....i'm here.... still listening to music. After one month i come back with new suggestions. I'm happy because many people has sent emails to me saying "where are the Jorge's blog news??" and here we are....
Last week i have started to listen to last album Arcade Fire "NEON BIBLE"
After a Funeral (their album debut) it comes a Neon Bible. Please do not forget to visit their website, it is amazing, full of details, corners and places to surf....
http://www.arcadefire.com/flash.html
And the music is that way, i was thinking how to describe it but i dont know, sorry....
In Rockdelux magazine they say "It is a work where organs & military chorus sound like when you are in the middle of the ocean at night" and what does it mean??.... i dont know but i've got the cd last week and i listen to minimum 4 times per day.
Arcade Fire are Win Butler & Regine Chassagne from Canada. They had a very successfull debut album. They've got to be on the stage with U2, Bjork, Coldplay....so why aren't they successfull in SPAIN??? I dont know....sorry ;-)
Enjoy please....and visit as soon as possible:
Standstill - Sr.Chinarro
Here we go today with 2 veterans, maybe you don’t know about them, but spanish bands are doing great music and spanish people are not aware of that.
ها نحن نجتمع اليوم مع اثنين من المحاربين ، ربما انك لا تعرف الكثير عنهم ، لكن الاسبانيه هي فرق عمل موسيقي كبير والشعب الأسباني لا يدركون ذلك.
So this is a rebuke to me and to YOU as well. We do have to take care of Spanish bands.
STANDSTILL “Vivalaguerra”
They are from Cataluña, they are playing music since 10 years ago, doing great things, with some changes in their stile but what I have discovered with their last album I like. They have arrived in Spanish lyrics, doing a good job, good construction “Romper un silencio así no tiene perdón”…
::: standstill :::
But besides of languages, lyrics, colours, sounds, trends, …this people is looking forward, to the future, and I hope we can follow after this discovering.
By the way they are playing live next 8th Feb 07 in El Sol – Madrid.
SR. CHINARRO "El Mundo Según"
We become accustomed bad with Antonio Luque. Does not matter where he releases an album he does a good job. He amazes us each time he gives us a new album.
I don’t know how to explain it, his last 2 albums look, at the beginning, simple pop songs, nothing else. But that’s quite enough, to get a bunch of good pop songs, but he gets to say always something, to transmit always something to you.
Pop songs with almost perfect chorus, surrealist lyrics and accessible alternative music, without loosing his identity. In this last album goes deep in his Andalusia (he is from Sevilla) roots or he explores new nuances to decorate some songs.
Next gig in Madrid 17th Feb 07 (Galileo)
This sample is not from this album, but at least you can see and listening to something.
Matt Elliott "Falling Songs"
Hello....Hola, here we are again....
NEW YEAR
NEW MUSIC
NEW FEELINGS
I'm pretty busy with new bands i'm listening to but i can not start this 2007 year without talking about ...............
Matt Elliott "Falling Songs"
I was surprised with his previous job, that "drinking songs" full of an special enviroment, dense, hard, smoked, ....long songs that involve you since the begining, suffering at the same time with him.
Why this guy comming from drum'n'bass music give up electronic to be recycled as a folk songwritter?? (with a touch of balkan music, as i read in a newspaper) But listening to Matt Elliott last album you follow a dark path through mediterranean see, you stop somewhere in Spain, somewhere in Romania, somewhere in Greece, somewhere in the old Yugoslavia.....and, to add more weird influences, his grandmother was from Estonia. Me, personally, i was quite impresed by "drinking songs" and now with "faling songs" i have placed him in a preferred position. I know he sings mostly sad songs....but maybe i'm a bit masochistic...who knows?
Enjoy it or SUFFER IT.
See you tomorrow.
Jorge
